Aikido- the way of harmonizing energy
Bokken- a wooden practice sword used for training
Hanmi handachi - techniques performed with nage sitting and uke standing
Ikkyo - first technique or pinning movement
Irimi Nage-entering throw
Jiyu Waza- free practice, typically with a single uke
Jo - A short staff
Jodan Tsuki- punch or thrust to the face
Jo Dori - techniques for disarming an uke with a jo
Juji Nage- "figure 10 throw" a throw using crossed arms
Kaiten Nage- rotary throw
Kata Dori- shoulder grab
Katate Dori- same side wrist grab (uke grabs nage's left wrist with her right hand)
Kokyu Tanden Ho- breath power exercise
Kokyu Nage- Breath throw
Kosa Dori - cross body wrist grab (uke grabs nage's left wrist with his left hand)
Koshinage - hip throw
Kotegaeshi- out turned wrist throw
Kubishime - choke hold
Kumi Jo-paired exercises with the jo
Kumi Tachi - paired exercises with the sword (bokken)
Munetsuki - punch or thrust to the midsection
Nikkyo- second technique or pinning movement
O-Sensei-honorific of the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba
Randori- free practice, typically with multiple ukes
Ryokata dori- grabbing both shoulders
Ryote dori - grabbing both wrists
Sankyo - 3rd technique or pinning movement
Shihonage - 4 corner throw
Shomenuchi - overhead strike
Sumi Otoshi- corner drop
Suwari Waza - techniques practiced with both Uke and Nage seated
Ushiro - an attack from the rear
Yokomenuchi - a strike to the side of the head or neck
Yankyo- 4th technique or pinning movement
